Then Queen of Spain has visited the panda cubs of Zoo Madrid on November 5, 2010. Reina Dona Sofia, has always showed a great interest in giant pandas. She and her husband King Juan Carlos received a pair of giant pandas, Shao Shao & Chang Chang in 1978 as a goodwill gift from China. Thanks to her trip to Chengdu in 2007, Bing Xing & Hua Zuiba were loaned to Zoo Madrid. In the company of the CEO of Parques Reunidos and the Director of Zoo Madrid, Queen Sofia went to the panda house to meet the twin cubs born on September 7. You can see Queen Sofia became very emotional when she could hold the panda cubs. She even tried to give a bottle to the cubs. It was the second time twins were born in Madrid. Shao Shao gave birth to twins in 1982, but only the strongest cub, Chu Lin, survived. Zoo Madrid now is the only place outside of Asia where twins survived. Experts from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding came to Madrid to perform AI and to use the cub swapping technique.
