Giant Pandas in Vienna
Tiergarten Schönbrunn has 3 giant pandas: Yang Yang, Long Hui & Fu Hu
In 1991 the Austrian minister of economics, Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel, would like to see giant pandas in Vienna. He starts to talk about it with several chinese high-ranking diplomats.
On September 20, 2002 the chinese Primeminister Zhu Rongji visited Vienna. He was bringing good news to Bundeskanzler Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel and Zoo Director Dr. Helmut Pechlaner. Tiergarten Schönbrunn would receive a breeding couple of giant pandas.
On March 14, 2003 a young pair of pandas, Yang Yang & Long Hui, were transferred from China to Tiergarten Schönbrunn.
The animals are on loan to the Republic of Austria by the People’s Republic of China for a period of 10 years.
Yang Yang
Yang Yang (female) was born on August 10, 2000 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda in Wolong.
She has studbook number 514.
Her name means “Sonnenschein” in Chinese.
Her mother is Ying Ying (382) and her father is Da Di (394).
She came to Tiergarten Schönbrunn on March 14, 2003 with Long Hui.
Yang Yang is the mother of Fu Long, Fu Long’s twin sibling, Fu Hu & Fu Hu’s twin sibling.
Long Hui
Long Hui (male) was born on September 26, 2000 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda in Wolong.
He has studbook number 526.
His name means “Drachenzeichen” in Chinese.
His mother is Tang Tang (446) and his father is Xin Xing (329).
He came to Tiergarten Schönbrunn on March 14, 2003 with Yang Yang.
Long Hui is the father of Fu Long, Fu Long’s twin sibling, Fu Hu & Fu Hu’s twin sibling.
Fu Hu
Fu Hu (male) was born on August 23, 2010 at Tiergarten Schönbrunn.
His name means “Happy Tiger” in Chinese.
His mother is Yang Yang (514) and his father is Long Hui (526).
