Tiergarten Schönbrunn



The history of Tiergarten Schönbrunn goes back to Empress Maria Theresia and her husband Franz Stephan von Lothringen. In the summer of 1752, after a one-year construction period, the animals were brought to the zoo and presented to the public.

Giant Pandas in Vienna

Yang Yang, Long Hui & cubs 2013

They came on loan to the Republic of Austria by the People’s Republic of China for a period of 10 years.

Panda History



Fu Long (male) was born at Tiergarten Schönbrunn on August 23, 2007. He left his birth town Vienna on November 18, 2009. Fu Long moved to his parents native country China, to participate in the giant panda breeding program.

His brother Fu Hu was born exactly 3 years later, on August 23, 2010. He left his birth town Vienna on November 6, 2012. [read more]
