Giant Pandas in Adelaide

Adelaide Zoo has 2 giant pandas: Wang Wang & Funi


On November 28, 2009, a breeding pair of giant pandas arrived at Adelaide Zoo. Wang Wang & Funi will live in Australia for 10 years. The zoo will house the two pandas as part of a worldwide breeding program under an agreement with Chinese conservation and wildlife associations.


Wang Wang

Wang Wang (male) was born on August 31, 2005 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda in Wolong.

He has studbook number 620.
His name means “Net Net” in Chinese.

His mother is Mao Mao (504) and his father is Lin Lin (455).

He came to Adelaide Zoo on November 28, 2009 with Fu Ni.


Funi

Funi (female) was born on August 23, 2006 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda in Wolong.

She has studbook number 638.
Her name means “Lucky Girl” in Chinese.

Her mother is Long Xin (516) and her father is Lu Lu (503).

She has a twin brother, Fu Wa.

She came to Adelaide Zoo on November 28, 2009 with Wang Wang.
