December 1, 2010: day 5 and final day in Madrid. Saying goodbye to these cute cubs is not easy. I could visit the zoo for only 2 hours since our flight back to Belgium was in the afternoon. Hua Zuiba was sleeping inside. Chen Min was showing me the differences between the cubs. Yuan Bo & Chen Min have been in Madrid since August and they were there when the cubs were born. I must say I am quite good in knowing pandas from each other, but I find it very difficult with twin cubs! The differences are that cub B has a bigger black part on his back than cub A. Cub A has a shorter tale than cub B. At birth cub B had some white fur on one of his legs, but now cub A is also getting this. And cub B looks like Bing Xing… (We should confirm this in a couple of years…)

Now that we are talking about somebody who looks like Bing Xing, I still have an interesting story about one day in Chengdu. When I first visited the No. 1 House I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was thinking I had seen Bing Xing. Then I realized he has a twin brother, Bing Dian. Now in Madrid, I was showing some pictures of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding to the Spanish panda keeper Rebeca and she immediately said: “this panda looks very very much like Bing Xing”! It was Bing Dian… (More about Bing Dian later this month)

Bing Xing was doing what he likes the most: eating bamboo.

I had an amazing time in Madrid and we will keep you up-to-date about these cubs!
