Now would be a great time to contact Adelaide Zoo if you have bamboo on your property and would like to donate it to help feed their Giant Pandas Wang Wang & Funi!

Donations from the public continue to be very important to our daily supply requirements as we work towards making our bamboo plantation at Bolivar self sufficient. Giant Pandas require between 20 to 30 kg each of fresh bamboo each day. If you can imagine a culm (stick) of bamboo weighs less than 1 kilogram – that’s a lot of bamboo we need to source to keep Wang Wang and Funi fed and happy. We have planted nine hectares of bamboo root stock at Bolivar, but like all plants this requires time to establish and mature before we can start harvesting on a daily basis

We are looking for healthy bamboo of the Phyllostachys aurea or Phyllostachys nigra species, not to be confused with Arundo donax (Provence Reed).

Please phone (08 8267 3255) or fill out the form below if you are happy for us to come and harvest your bamboo plants.
