4 July 2011, Veterinarians and staffs from Chiang Mai Zoo conducted an ultrasound on Lin Hui to see if she was pregnant after an artificial insemination in April 2011. Dr. Kannikar Nimtrakul, a veterinarian of Project for Panda Research and Display in Thailand, revealed that a veterinarian from Chulalongkorn University joined an ultrasound scan. It showed the expansion of Lin Hui uterus which are the signs of panda pregnancy but not found the embryo yet. However, the staffs are closely observing Lin Hui’s behavior. It is possible that Lin Hui could be pregnant, according to pregnancy period. When hormonal changes decline to normal level, Lin Hui is false pregnancy. We’re still waiting and hoping Lin Hui is a true pregnant. Another ultrasound examination will be conducted again by the end of this week.
Dr. Kannikar said “this is no way conclusive whether or not Lin Hui is really pregnant, although many signs indicate a true pregnancy but did not find an embryo yet maybe because an embryo is so small or pandas can also experience a pseudopregnancy.
