Bao Bao, the oldest panda outside of China, lives at Zoo Berlin for 30 years. He arrived in Berlin on November 5, 1980 with Tjen Tjen. No panda has ever lived this long outside of China. I visited Bao Bao on this special day. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding also couldn’t forget a special occasion like this. They wanted to honour Bao Bao and everybody who has taken care of him! I was very proud to give a letter from Dr. Zhang Zhihe, director of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, to Zoo Berlin. Detlev Liebschwager, Head of the Carnivore House, appreciated this gesture from Dr. Zhang Zhihe. We all hope Bao Bao will live for many more years. He now is the oldest panda outside of China and the oldest male panda in captivity. I hope he can break many other records!
