History of Giant Pandas in Toronto
Toronto Zoo had 2 giant pandas: Qinn Qinn & Sha Yan

The People’s Republic of China loaned a pair of giant pandas, Qinn Qinn & Sha Yan,
to the Toronto Zoo from July until September 1985.



Qinn Qinn
Qinn Qinn (female) was born approximately in 1979.
She has studbook number 222.
She was captured in Baoxing in April 1980 and transferred to the CRCCGP in Wolong on February 15, 1981.
Qinn Qinn died on April 30, 1988 in Wolong.

Sha Yan
Sha Yan (male) was born approximately in 1976.
He has studbook number 251.
He was captured in Tianquan on April 10, 1984 and transferred to the Chengdu Zoo one day later.
He moved to the CRCCGP in Wolong in October 1984.
Sha Yan died on July 13, 1989 in Wolong.
