History of Giant Pandas in Calgary

Calgary Zoo had 2 giant pandas: Wei Lun & Xi Xi

Two giant pandas, on loan from China, visited Calgary Zoo from February until September 1988. There was a record attendance of 1.35 million due to the panda visit and the XV Olympic Winter Games. The visit of the pandas gave the Zoo and exciting opportunity to teach people about conservation initiatives. Much of the revenue made through the visit went back to giant panda research as well as other conservation programs.
