Recreation area Beekse Bergen opened it's doors in 1964.
On June 1, 1968 Circusman Jimmy Chipperfield introduced 'Safari' to the Netherlands. The owners of the Beekse Bergen area, the city's of Tilburg and Hilvarenbeek, hired him to make some money out of these grounds.
In 1987, Libema Exploitatie B.V. bought the Safaripark.

Short term loan
The early 80's were a financial bad time for Safaripark Beekse Bergen.
When Libéma bought the park, they had to find some ways to make some money, to solve the financial problems.
A big stunt was the short term loan of 2 giant pandas in 1987.
Rong Rong & Chuan Chuan came from Chengdu to the Netherlands and lived at Safaripark Beekse Bergen from May until September 1987.
